1 min read

A former apprentice has been appointed as Head of Business Development at one of the largest sheet metal engineering firms in the UK.

Just 11 years ago rising star Adam Ellis was starting out on his four-year in-house apprenticeship at KMF Group, based in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

He gained valuable on-the-job experience as he became proficient in laser cutting, metal forming, punching and welding on the way to being awarded an NVQ and VRQ Level 3 in sheet metal fabrication and welding.

After he had qualified Adam’s first position at KMF’s Advanced Solutions was press brake operator.

The role involved folding components required for the aerospace industry, operating high-tech sheet metal-forming machines, and innovative computer software.

He then progressed to become Sales Engineer with involvement in the planning of the manufacturing process before being appointed to the post of Business Development Manager.

His dedication and enthusiasm in that role, supervising key customer accounts and finding new business opportunities, led to his current promotion.

As Head of Business Development, Adam combines his deep understanding of the sheet metal fabrication market and his expertise in seeking out business opportunities with a responsibility to manage and nurture members of the team.

Looking back at his time as an apprentice, Adam said: “The apprenticeship scheme gave me a good understanding of the processes involved at KMF Group which is now beneficial when taking on new customers in my current role, as I have a thorough knowledge of the company’s capabilities.”
