Enthusiasm plus quality adds up to accountancy job

1 min read

Eagerness to learn and an impressive CV earned Andrew Williams a place as an apprentice at an accountancy practice.

The 19-year-old was given the chance to join LSGK Accountants in Leek after the firm contacted his college to fill a vacancy caused by the departure of a member of staff.

“We had advertised the role and got some interest but couldn’t find the right person to fit the post,” said Director Jed Eatough.

“I approached Buxton & Leek College to enquire about the possibility of taking on an apprentice and I was immediately impressed by their service and enthusiasm and the quality of the candidates.

“I was particularly attracted to Andrew due to his good grades at GSCE including an A level in Business Studies and the fact that he had participated in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

“He also had some work experience under his belt and came across as a young man determined to get on in life.”

During the early stages of his apprenticeship Biddulph-born Andrew will be helping technical staff to summarise client records and undertaking reconciliations while learning the fundamentals of double entry bookkeeping.

He is studying part-time for an AAT Level 2 qualification at Buxton & Leek College with a view to progressing further to gain his professional accountancy qualifications.
