Feedback sought on town centre regeneration plans

1 min read

Commercial opportunities are set to flow from the regeneration of part of Uttoxeter town centre – and businesses and individiuals can have their say on shaping the proposals.

A second wave of public consultation is underway on plans to breathe new life into the site of The Maltings shopping centre.

The Maltings Regeneration Project aims to maximise the potential of the precinct as a residential, retail, leisure and commercial area.

One of the aims of the initiative is to fully realise the town’s potential by stimulating investment.

Four alternative “concept lay-outs” for the new site have been developed since previous consultation feedback in 2020.

People who take part in the latest consultation, which lasts until 25 March, will have the chance to discuss them on February 2, February 25 and March 8 at Uttoxeter Town Hall with the Leader of East Staffordshire Borough Council, Councillor George Allen, and the Cabinet member responsible for Regeneration, Business Support and Marketing, Councillor Adam Clarke.

The architects for the scheme will also be present as will a team of officers from East Staffordshire Borough Council and ward members who represent the town.

Under all four lay-outs, existing car parking will be retained and a bus station will be situated close to the high street.

The public toilets will stay as they are and there will enough space for the retailers currently on site as well as opportunities for new commercial growth.

Information boards will be set up at the Town Hall during the consultation period and people can give views using hard-copy questionnaires as well as completing the questionnaire online on the council’s website.

Details of the council’s Masterplan and survey which includes the Maltings development are available here.
