1 min read

A top cyber security expert was guest speaker at a business partnership networking event in South Staffordshire.

Dr Andrew Larner discussed cyber attacks and the risks to SMEs and councils when he appeared at the event at Penkridge.

Dr Larner, chief executive of the Improvement & Efficiency Social Enterprise (iESE), was speaking at the event organised by South Staffordshire Council’s Business Place Partnership with Dunston Business Village and Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Growth Hub.

He told representatives of more than 60 local businesses: “Cyber crime is becoming more frequent and more complex. However there are some really simple solutions that local businesses can take up to protect themselves.”

Dr Larner, picture above, is an authority on the “generational leap in technology” which now protects against malware attacks, even those known as zero-day (never known before).

The Business Place Partnership Networking Event provided a one-stop-shop for SMEs and independent businesses to find out about financial, strategic and practical support on offer in the county.

Rebecca Parker, Head of Business at Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Growth Hub, said: “The Business Place Partnership Networking Event is the first in-person event for 2023 as part of our #ScaleInStaffs campaign and has been an excellent opportunity for Staffordshire businesses to come together and understand the support landscape as well as what is available to them on a fully funded basis.”

Wayne Dutton, Enterprise Manager at South Staffordshire Council added: “It is wonderful to be working in collaboration with Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Growth Hub and Dunston Business Village.

“We encourage businesses and partners to come together and network, and this is just one of a series of events we have planned for the coming year.”
