1 min read

Grants of up to £25,000 are up for grabs to help farmers, foresters and growers buy equipment.

Cash being offered by DEFRA through its  is Farming Equipment and Technology Fund 2023  designed to help improve environmental sustainability, boost productivity and enhance animal health and welfare.

The application process is soon to go live in two phases, covering prescribed lists of equipment which can be purchased:

Productivity and Slurry grant (open later this month)

  • The items in this list improve agricultural sustainability and horticultural and forestry productivity, helping farmers use less inputs, reduce emissions and cut waste.

Animal Health and Welfare grant (available in March)

  • The items in this list offer improvements in the health and welfare of livestock, potentially helping farmers improve biosecurity or decrease environmental stress.

Businesses in farming, forestry and cultivation, including contractors to these sectors, can apply for between £1,000 and £25,000.

During an earlier round of funding, successful applicants typically received a grant of about 44 per cent of the total cost of purchasing new equipment.

When the window to apply opens, businesses should simply visit the relevant online portal and answer questions for the types of grants they are applying for.

The Farming Equipment and Technology Fund  is part of the Farming Investment Fund.
