An independent insurance brokerage will double in size with the takeover of a historic firm.

Wolstanton-based amb Insurance Services has acquired Mercer Jones & Company, in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.

The firm will be taking on Mercer Jones & Company’s existing clients and has transferred all its staff to the Woodland Avenue offices.

Andrew Barrow, Managing Director of amb Insurance Services, pictured above, said: “Mercer Jones & Company has been serving its local area for many years and its commitment to providing high-quality advice in an approachable manner made it a perfect cultural fit for amb Insurance Services.

“The acquisition of Mercer Jones & Company will double our size in terms of income/turnover, allowing us to continue to grow our team and develop new, innovative ways to offer the highest standard of service and products to our customers.”

amb Insurance Services, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, has grown from strength to strength since the Covid pandemic began. Income has grown 76 per cent and its team increased from eight to 17 employees before the acquisition.

David Crompton, Managing Director of Mercer Jones & Company, which were incorporated in 1934, said: “Having worked closely with amb Insurance Services in recent times, it quickly became apparent our ethos and values are closely aligned.

“I’m confident that this move will open up new opportunities for a wider range of products and services for our existing clients.

“I’m delighted that our history will live on as part of amb Insurance Services.”
