Redevelopment projects in two East Staffordshire town centres have moved a step closer.
East Staffordshire Borough Council’s plans for the Maltings precinct in Uttoxeter and Burton upon Trent’s high street are featured in its 2023-24 Corporate Plan which has now been formally adopted.
The Council will progress the purchase of the Maltings shopping centre site and after taking in the findings of its public consultation will work up a final development proposal for planning consideration.
The Maltings Regeneration Project aims to maximise the potential of the precinct as a residential, retail, leisure and commercial area.
One of the aims of the initiative, which will be backed by up to £1 million from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund together with £1.8 million from the council’s capital fund, is to fully realise the town’s potential by stimulating investment.
Meanwhile the Burton upon Trent High Street Regeneration Project will bring about a range of improvements.
Phase One of the Towns Fund Project between Old Bass House and the Water Tower will create an attractive link between the two historic buildings.
The transformed High Street site will include a public plaza providing an attractive outdoor area for eating, drinking and various activities linked to the new cultural facilities which are planned.
Other initiatives highlighted in the Corporate Plan include the improvement of the Washlands as a regional attraction and the launch of a new temporary National Archive Centre and Regeneration Engagement Hub in Burton upon Trent.
