A Stoke-on-Trent waste management firm has taken great strides towards its Net Zero commitment with significant investment of more than £700,000 in two pieces of specialist equipment.
Brown Recycling has bought a state-of-the-art waste shredder which converts industrial, commercial and bulk waste into fuel for energy conversion. It has also purchased an electric Solmec waste handler – becoming only the second company in the UK to do so.
The investment totals more than £710,000 plus VAT.
The new ZR Untha waste shredder replaces a piece of kit that has been installed at Brown’s site in Sneyd Hill for 11 years and has around 18,000 service hours ‘under its belt’.
The new shredder, pictured above, is more efficient and can increase throughputs by up to 30 per cent, making it a win-win for environmentally-friendly waste energy conversion and customers too.
The RDF fuel it creates not only diverts waste from landfill but produces an alternative to fossil fuels, so it doubles its green credentials.
“We’ve always been impressed with what we can achieve with our shredders,” said Browns’ Managing Director Rod Brown. “And the firm’s constant commitment to pushing new boundaries has continued to support the evolution of our business.
“The new ZR model comes with an improved electric drive, which means that we can benefit from power savings of up to 75% and it has been optimised to minimise down time when shredding.”
The new Solmec waste handler is battery powered and comes fitted with a grab arm. It has been put to work handling waste and the design incorporates better cab comfort and extra protection for operators too.
