Businesses are being encouraged to enter the inaugural Staffordshire University Business Awards.
Accolades are up for grabs in 11 diverse categories which aim to champion and celebrate companies, organisations and individuals who are making a real difference to the area.
Categories include Business of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and Team of the Year.
There is also a category celebrating successful alumni that has already attracted interest from as far afield as Hong Kong.
And a special Lifetime Achievement award will be presented at the ceremony, which takes place on September 14 at the University’s Catalyst Building on its Leek Road Campus, Stoke-on-Trent.
Martin Tideswell, Staffordshire University’s Director of Communities and Commercial Engagement, said: “We’ve had a fantastic response to the event so far but nominations remain open until mid-July, giving plenty more businesses and individuals the opportuity to get involved and have their success recognised.
“As a university we decided to lay this on for three reasons – firstly, it is part of our vision to be a civic university, promoting and contributing to the wellbeing of the area; secondly, we already engage and work with hundreds of businesses and organisations so this is a natural extension of that work.
“Finally, it is a great way of promoting our facilities to the wider business community – including the Catalyst Building which will host the awards.”
The 16 sponsors of the event include headline sponsor Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce and a range of businesses and organisations.
A dedicated website has been set up to promote the Awards. It includes a news section, refreshed daily, showcasing many of the entrants. These stories are written by Jenny Amphlett, Stakeholder and Commercial Engagement Manager at the university – who is an award-winning journalist.
