A small shop launched just over 18 months ago has been featured in a top trade magazine’s list of the UK’s most inspirational cheese retailers.
The Cheese Locker, set up in Abbots Bromley by Alex Hunt, is one of 16 outlets in the guide put together by Speciality Food Magazine.
The piece describes his dedicated approach to customer service and praises his passion for introducing people to a wide range of cheeses.
Alex, who regularly stocks between 30 and 50 different types of cheese at once, said: “I like to educate my customers about where the cheeses are from – but I also listen to them, find out what they want and like in order to help find the best cheese for them.
“Looking after the customer is the most important thing for me and, because of that, people enjoy the experience of shopping here.”
Alex opened the Goose Lane business in October 2021 after being ill with Covid led to him putting back his dissertation for a psychology degree at Aston University.
He completed the degree last summer, whilst running the shop all by himself.
Luckily, he has family links within the cheese industry which has given him a good knowledge base to draw on.
Alex is now preparing to launch a cheese club offering customers the chance to try some lesser-known varieties.
“Some of the best cheeses in the world are from England, but they aren’t spoken about enough,” Alex added.
“We’ll give people the chance to try and learn more about them – plus various others – each month.”
