South Staffordshire College students to benefit from new work experience programme with Cannock Chase Council

1 min read

Cannock Chase Council has partnered with South Staffordshire College to create a work experience programme for students.

The students who are studying carpentry, plumbing, electrics and bricklaying at South Staffordshire College are teaming up with the Housing Maintenance team and Property Services team at the Council, to get regular work experience to enable them to pass their course.

Students also attended a presentation carried out by the Council and a surveyor, where they learnt about surveying as a career and the potential routes they should take after completion of their studies.

Nirmal Samrai, the Council’s Head of Housing and Corporate Assets, said “I am delighted that the Housing team and the college have created this successful partnership.  It is vital that students get the chance of hands on experience to help them with future employment, once they have finished their studies.”

Andy Roper, Plumbing Lecturer, said “The college would like to thank Cannock Chase Council for providing our learners with this invaluable work experience opportunity within its housing team.

“The partnership with the Council has allowed learners to hear from other organisations within the Council’s supply chain – such as Rapley’s – through a variety of toolbox talks’ delivered at Rodbaston College.

“The toolbox talks have enabled our learners to hear from experts in the sector and to gain a deeper understanding of how maintenance works are received, planned, organised and then carried out for customers of Council.”

The 24 students will benefit from hands on experience working with members of the Housing team and will gain the relevant work experience hours they need to pass their course.
