The recent announcement by the Government to defer and delay major transport schemes has sparked concerns about the future of Staffordshire’s road infrastructure.

In response, Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce is calling on businesses to join an important meeting and voice their opinions on the impact of delaying road improvements.

The meeting, taking place at Commerce House on Monday, June 19, 9:00 am – 10:30 am, will provide the Chamber with valuable insights as they advocate for necessary road improvements and enhanced connectivity.

The A50 and A500 roads form part of the ‘North Midlands Manufacturing Corridor’ and are vital arterial routes connecting the east and west of the region. These roads serve renowned brands but are troubled by congestion at key pinch points, most notably at Uttoxeter and in the urban area of North Staffordshire.

Moreover, anticipated improvements to J15 M6 are also facing significant delays, leaving a substandard and congested junction for at least another decade.

Declan Riddell, Policy Manager at Staffordshire Chambers, said: “Transportation plays a pivotal role in facilitating business growth, and Staffordshire boasts excellent road connectivity, offering access to all corners of the UK. The county is home to a thriving logistics sector, underscoring the importance of our road and rail networks.

“80% of all freight in the UK passes through the Midlands, located in the renowned ‘Golden Triangle’ for logistics, and the region is also home to East Midlands Aiport, the second-largest freight airport.

“Transportation is a key enabler for business success, and together, we can ensure a stronger and more connected Staffordshire. Do not miss this opportunity to shape the future of our local road network.”

Businesses interested in participating in the meeting at Commerce House on Monday, June 19, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am can do so by booking a space here.
