Willshee’s Waste and Recycling, a prominent waste management company, is thrilled to announce its selection as a finalist for the Science, Technology, and Innovation Award at the esteemed Staffordshire Chambers Business Awards 2023. This category, sponsored by Lesters Group, aims to recognise businesses that have demonstrated exceptional advancements through the application of ground-breaking technology and innovative practices.

As a leader in waste management, Willshee’s Waste and Recycling is committed to achieving zero waste to landfill while processing a diverse range of waste streams. With multiple depots strategically located in East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire, the company effectively manages, sorts, and processes incoming waste. Leveraging automated plant operations and modern technology, Willshee’s now converts a significant portion of waste into fuel and secondary aggregates for the construction industry.

One of Willshee’s notable achievements is the ability to offer full traceability to its clients, showcasing how their waste is diverted from landfill. By efficiently processing residential and commercial waste, the company has become a reliable “one-stop shop” for many commercial customers. Not only does this approach significantly reduce Willshee’s carbon footprint, but it also provides customers with tangible information, allowing them to understand how their waste is repurposed and how their carbon footprint is diminished.

Collaborating with local businesses also enables shorter transportation distances, resulting in a reduced carbon footprint and additional environmental benefits. In just one year, Willshee’s successfully transformed over 90,000 tonnes of residual waste into fuel, equivalent to diverting almost 850 blue whales of waste from landfill.

As a family-run business, Willshee’s Waste and Recycling remains steadfast in its commitment to be part of the solution to increase recycling, achieve zero waste to landfill, and protect the environment. In addition to their waste management efforts, Willshee’s Waste and Recycling is pioneering sustainable initiatives. Their sand and gravel quarry, which will serve HS2 (High-Speed 2) construction, incorporates renewable energy sources such as solar and battery power, generating over 3MW of energy. This exemplifies Willshee’s commitment to low-energy-consuming mineral extraction and reducing the demand for high-energy minerals during HS2 construction.
