The Theatre and Musical Theatre Programme at The City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College has notched up a significant milestone.

Eight young people who showed exceptional promise as students have been accepted into the prestigious National Youth Theatre (NYT) – a record for the College.

The talented performers were successful in auditions for the NYT intake course which were held on their home turf.

Under a long-standing partnership with the National Youth Theatre, the College is the only location outside London to stage annual auditions.

The successful cohort comprises Jess Lello, Maddie Brassington, Rebekah Locker, Amy Keen-Wicks, Josh Evans, Ruby Roberts (former student), Dhanya Fairley (former student) and Lucy Walley (on the reserve list).

Membership of the NYT allows students to gain access to castings for NYT productions, free West End tickets and casting opportunities for film and TV.

Teacher of Theatre/Musical Theatre Jade Wood said: “We are honoured to host auditions for the National Youth Theatre annually, providing our students with a professional audition experience and collaboration with external companies.

“As the sole educational venue outside London for these auditions, we take pride in our successful partnership.

“Being part of the National Youth Theatre offers our students a creative network, enabling performances, professional auditions, and industry leadership.

“This year, students from various disciplines joined the buzz, fostering a supportive community during group workshops and solo monologue auditions.

“It’s a collective effort, celebrating all successes and opening doors to the professional industry. Stoke-on-Trent boasts remarkable young talent.”
