Innovative pool provides schools with cost-effective way of teaching pupils to swim

1 min read

A physical education, sport and wellbeing provider has come up with a novel way of making it easier to teach young pupils to swim – by bringing a pool to their school.

Time4Sport, which is based at the Michelin Sports Centre, in Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent, has launched Time4Swimming which features a mobile 16ft x 32ft swimming pool that can be assembled on school grounds.

The pool is filtered, heated and is protected by a marquee to make it usable in all weathers. Up to 12 pupils can be taught at a time by fully-qualified swimming instructors – with lifeguards provided by the company on hand too.

It cuts out the need for children to be transported to swimming baths, reduces the time they are out of schools and lessons and impacts on costs factors too.

Time4Sport Managing Director Wayne Glover said: “The Department for Education states that all children should be able to swim 25 metres by the time they leave primary school.

“Time4Swimming will help schools achieve this target, all without leaving the school site.

“It is a much more straightforward and cost-effective way to deliver swimming at school. Each session is tailored to the needs of pupils and is delivered by a fully qualified swimming instructor, with lifeguard.”

Swimming teachers are fully qualified to Level 2 swimming teacher and use the Swim England, Learn to Swim Scheme.

Time4Sport are hosting a Time4Swimming showcase event for prospective schools, to demonstrate the pool in action and for a chance to ask the team any questions.

Sessions are taking place at Belgrave St Bartholomew’s Academy, in Lightwood, Stoke-on-Trent, on Tuesday 27 June and Friday 30 June.

Time4Sport was set up in 2007 with the aim of delivering a first-class education service as well as health and physical activities in schools and to families across Staffordshire.
