The UK’s most landlocked cathedral is to celebrate the joys of the seaside this summer.
Sand, decking, deck chairs and refreshments are returning to the courtyard at Lichfield Cathedral from 22 July to 3 September.
Back by popular demand, The Beach gives visitors time away from day to day worries and the chance to chill out, in a serene setting.
A water element is being added to the seaside tableau, with a new water play area being set up on the West Front for younger children.
There is no charge to visit The Beach and free children’s activities are on offer throughout the summer holidays.
Every weekday from 10:00-12:00 the Cathedral will be hosting a free Craft Club for children and big children alike.
Each week will see a different activity with the opportunity to create artwork for display in the Cathedral during the autumn installation called Journey Through Creation.
Youngsters will get the chance to make light catchers from recycled materials, fish, feathers and imitation clouds.
The Right Revd Jan McFarlane, Dean of Lichfield, said: “Come for the day, bring a picnic, and enjoy the sand trickling through your toes.
“Join in with children and adults alike, making sandcastles, sunbathing, and simply enjoying relaxing in one another’s company.
“Life is tough at the moment, with worries about household bills and the cost of living.
“Child-like play is good for us grown-ups as well as the little ones. Please know that you are always welcome at Lichfield Cathedral – your Cathedral.”
