Businesses are being asked to give their views on wide sweeping plans that will shape the future development of Newcastle-under-Lyme over the next two decades.

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s First Draft Local Plan consultation is currently underway.  The eight-week consultation began on the 19 June and will finish at 5pm on the 14 August 2023.

The Local Plan sets out the long-term vision, strategic objectives and development strategy for the Borough.

It not only identifies where and how many new homes should be built but also locations where businesses may need more land and areas of regeneration and protection.

Under the proposals, approximately 5,400 homes could be built across more than 40 sites, some of which are in the green belt.

There are also a range of ideas for business sites to create new jobs, both on brownfield sites and new development land, as well as for protecting more than 60 green spaces.

A spokesperson for the Council said: “The provision of appropriate land for businesses to invest, expand and adapt is a key part of the Strategy of Newcastle’s Local Plan.

“The Plan must ensure that businesses are supported to help create new jobs and protect existing jobs – a healthy, diverse jobs market is a fundamental part of the area’s long-term future.”

Further information can be found, and comments can be left, on the Borough Council’s website here until 14 August 2023.
