A contract furniture company is celebrating winning its biggest-ever contract and is preparing to see its work showcased at Oxford University

LiDR, in Stoke-on-Trent, has been appointed by Wates Construction as a subcontractor for Oxford University’s new Life and Mind Building.

The £200 million facility is the university’s largest-ever construction project and, once completed, it will be furnished with bespoke furniture manufactured, assembled and finished by LiDR at its base on Campbell Road, in Stoke.

The company, which has just over 30 employees, will be making items including reception counters, display cabinets and tables for the café and collaboration areas.

Its previous biggest contract was for the new Hilton Garden Inn hotel in Stoke-on-Trent.

The bespoke furniture will be manufactured, assembled and finished by LiDR at its base on Campbell Road, in Stoke.

Director Eleanor Owen said: “We are thrilled to be appointed as a subcontractor for this project by Wates Construction.

“Although it will be challenging, it is a brilliant project to be part of.

“We also believe it is a great recognition for the city, showing that we can build furniture which meets the high standards expected by Oxford University.”

LiDR will make items including reception counters, display cabinets and tables for the café and collaboration areas in the new £200m building.

The Life and Mind Building will become the new home for two of the university’s departments – Experimental Psychology and a new department of Biology, combining Zoology and Plant Sciences.

It will host state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, accommodating 800 students and 1,200 researchers.

LiDR, a family business, was started in 1986 and mainly works with the hospitality and education sectors.
