£545k investment brings brand new Your Co-op Food store to community

Retail group The Midcounties Co-operative has invested over £545,000 into opening a new store in Penkridge.

The Your Co-op Food store and its Post Office branch have relocated from Market Street onto Stone Cross, which is deemed a more convenient location for customers and members.

Its offering includes grocery items, a Costa Coffee machine in-store bakery and hot food-to-go range.

The investment has involved a refurbishment of the store, which is in a listed building, and the fitting of energy efficient refrigerators and LED lighting to help reduce its environmental impact.

Store Manager Lee Johnson said: “Not only is it great to be staying in the area and continue providing vital grocery and postal services to our members and customers, but to reopen in a more accessible location too meaning we can welcome more faces – old and new – from the local community.

The store will also host a food bank collection point and a soft plastic recycle unit allowing shoppers to recycle soft plastics such as crisp packets and pet food pouches, which can’t usually be placed in kerbside recycling bins.

Your Co-op is part of The Midcounties Co-operative, which is one of the largest independent UK co-operatives and is fully owned by its members.
