A unique feast for both the tastebuds and the mind has been unveiled to help celebrate the upcoming British Ceramics Biennial.
The mouth-watering tasting menu called From the Ground Up has been created by Head Chef Cris Cohen and his talented team at Feasted, in collaboration with the BCB, and takes its inspiration from all things ceramics.
Over seven imaginative courses, diners will be treated to dishes that symbolise everything about ceramics – from the raw materials taken from the earth, through the Potteries’ industrial heritage all the way to ceramic components made by Lucideon being used on rockets and probes sent to Mars.
The full evening dining experience and a lighter five-course lunch menu will be available from 23rd September until 3rd November and served up at Feasted’s distinctive home at the Spode pot bank site in Stoke. It will also build on the popular Chef’s Table fine dining taster menu experience Cris has developed since launching Feasted in 2017.
Cris, pictured above, said: “We wanted people to have a great dining experience while celebrating the themes behind the British Ceramic Biennial.
“So, the themes of storytelling, playfulness, risk-taking and activism have been considered and infused into each dish.
“We also see clay and food as symbiotic. For example, the need to make vessels to hold water and food has led to exploration and creativity that goes beyond just simple necessity.”
Intriguingly named dishes on the menu include ‘From the Ground’, ‘Breaking the Mould’, ‘Industrial Skies’, ‘Pigs Might Fly’ and ‘Rover on Mars’.
Cris added: “We tried to create a dining experience like no other, served up in an old pot bank in a post-industrial city. So I really do hope people come, enjoy, have fun, talk and embrace the ideas behind the menu.”
From the Ground Up feeds into an exciting range of activities and exhibitions being laid on as part of the British Ceramics Biennial 2023.
The six-week celebration of contemporary ceramics starts on 23rd September and runs until 5th November.
It will spotlight the UK’s leading artists working in clay as well as introducing international artists and fresh new talent.
Throughout the course of the celebration, more than 40 artists will exhibit newly commissioned and existing work at the BCB’s new Festival hub – All Saints Church in Hanley – and partner venues including the AirSpace Gallery, The Brampton Museum and The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery.
