Stoke-on-Trent manufacturer Don-Bur has supplied 23 new trailers to Poundland to help the retailer on its journey to becoming more environmentally friendly.
The new ‘wedge’ lifting deck box van longer semi trailers (LSTs) are 15.650m long meaning they can carry up to 60 UK pallets, eight more than a standard length double deck trailer and 34 more than a standard length single equivalent.
The delivery aims to help Poundland reduce its environmental impact and improve the efficiency of its operations by allowing it to carry more goods per trip and reduce its overall vehicle mileage.
Daniel Challinor, Don-Bur’s Sales and Commercial Director, said: “We are delighted to have worked with Poundland to design, manufacture and deliver the new green Lifting Deck LSTs.
“These trailers offer a number of significant benefits, including increased payload capacity, reduced emissions and improved safety and efficiency.
“We are confident that they will help Poundland to achieve its operational and environmental goals.”
Sustainability and operational benefits of the trailers include a wedge shape that allows access to the entire length of the bottom deck for easy loading and unloading.
A minimum aperture height of 1.725m improves safety and efficiency for loading operatives and the tyre configuration on the trailers helps provide better fuel consumption and reduced wear.
Greg Peacock, Central Transport Operations Manager at Poundland, which opened its first store inBurton upon Trent in 1990, said: “We’re pleased to have partnered with Don-Bur – the introduction of these new trailers will help us make a positive impact, carrying more goods per trip and reducing our overall vehicle mileage.”
