Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce is developing a proposal to open a new railway station in Stoke-on-Trent, which it says could be a “game-changer” for businesses in the area.
The Chamber wants to see a new station opened on the West Coast Mainline at Etruria Valley, adjacent to the newly-opened Etruria Valley Link Road.
The station would serve the business community at Etruria Valley and Festival Park, home to major employers including Bet365, DPD, Morrisons, Vodafone and Waterworld.
And as part of its work, the Chamber is hosting an event on Monday, 13 November, giving members of the business community chance to find out more about the proposals and voice their opinions.
The event is open to both members and non-members of the Chamber and will be held at the Chambers’ Commerce House headquarters, on Festival Way, Festival Park, on between 10am and 11am.
Staffordshire Chambers Policy Adviser Declan Riddell said: “A new railway station would open up a whole new means of travelling to and from the area, with employees, leisure travellers and visitors having easier access and reducing reliance on travel by car.
“This will make it easier for staff to travel to and from work, making local businesses more attractive and accessible.
“With more passengers choosing to travel by train, the familiar sight of queuing traffic on the A53 and A500 will become a thing of the past and with fewer cars on the road, local air quality will improve.”
