Contract furniture company LiDR has made its largest ever investment in the company’s history by bringing in two new pieces of machinery worth over £500,000 within a few weeks of each other.
The Stoke-on-Trent company shipped in a CNC edgebanding machine in October, giving it the ability to machine and edge a panel up to 4200×1900 mm, which represents a significant upgrade to the previous capability.
The machine also incorporates an airTec gluing system, further upgrading the quality provided.
LiDR, based on Campbell Road, in Stoke, is also due to take delivery of a new straight line edgebrander tomorrow, Friday 15 December.
The new model incorporates the same airTec technology as the CNC meaning both straight and shaped panels can have the option of a zero glue line.
All elements in the machine are higher grade than the current model, which will give a superior finish and the ability to handle much larger panels on the auto return system.
Production Director Darren Lowe said: “We’re very proud to be making these significant upgrades to our plant and equipment.
“We will make huge gains in quality, efficiency and productivity and we are looking forward to seeing the full benefit of that investment in 2024 and beyond.”
- Daily Focus reported earlier this year that LiDR had won its biggest ever contract with a deal to supply furniture for Oxford University’s new £200 million Life and Mind Building. Read more here.
