£900,000 highways improvements for major Burton road

1 min read

Commuters are being alerted to a large-scale highways improvements scheme, which is due to start on a major Burton road next week.

The £900,000 scheme on the A511 Horninglow Road North is being carried out by Staffordshire County Council’s highways team and is phase one of a programme of improvements to be carried out on the road over the next year.

The improvements, which start on Monday 15 January, are part of a wider £6 million investment by the county council in Burton’s roads over the next two years.

Work will include reconstruction and resurfacing of the road from the junction of Horninglow Croft to the junction of Farm Road. Repairs to the drainage systems, kerbing, ironwork, and footpaths will also be included. The scheme is expected to take around six weeks to complete weather permitting.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place during the initial works and drivers are being asked to allow more time for journeys.

The resurfacing work is estimated to take around one week to complete and will be carried out during the February half term holiday (12 to 18)  to help minimise any disruption.

A full road closure will be in place for the resurfacing work, followed by an off-peak closure from 9.30am to 2.30pm and 7.30pm to 5.30am for the remaining carriageway lining works. A fully signed diversion will be in operation when the road is closed.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said: “Good roads are extremely important to everyone which is why we are investing an extra £50 million in highways repairs and maintenance over the next three years, on top of any grant given by government.

“This is another important scheme for the town that will help deliver smoother journeys for motorists and help prolong the life of the road.  Crews will be doing their best to keep any disruption to a minimum and I would like to thank people for their co-operation while this vital work takes place.”
