Lichfield District Council has launched a campaign aimed at identifying areas of land which could be suitable for future developments.
The Call for Sites initiative gives landowners, developers, agents, site promoters and other interested parties the chance to put forward suggestions and help shape the future of the district ahead of a new local plan being drawn up.
Councillor Alex Farrell, Cabinet Member for Housing and Local Plan, said: “We believe that the Call for Sites is a vital step in planning for the future of our district.
“All the sites submitted will be assessed and a schedule, with accompanying information about the submission, will be published on our website. This will help inform the future stages of our new local plan.
“We encourage all stakeholders to engage with us during this process to ensure that the development needs of our community are met effectively and sustainably.”
Potential uses for submitted sites include:
- New housing – including affordable homes and sites for people with specialised housing needs (where a site can provide five or more dwellings).
- Economic development – for example employment, offices and retail (sites for 500m2 or more of floorspace).
- Pitches for travellers.
The council has said it places a strong emphasis on sustainable development and it is particularly interested in brownfield sites.
Submission of a site does not guarantee its allocation within the local plan or that planning permission will be granted.
The campaign runs until 25 March.
