Director’s 317-mile trek from Stoke to Scotland to fundraise for pancreatic cancer support in memory of her mum

1 min read

A company director is aiming to complete 12 ultra marathons in 13 days by walking from Stoke-on-Trent to a town in east Scotland to raise money for a cause very close to her heart.

Lisa Foster, of Blackbird Corporate Ltd, will trek 317 miles to Kirkcaldy to fundraise in memory of her mum, Jean Bruce, who died of pancreatic cancer.

Jean passed away 12 years ago aged just 55, and the route Lisa is walking is almost the exact route she took as she drove north to Scotland after learning she had died.

Supported by friends, family and BusinessLodge Stoke, Lisa will start walking on January 30 from Stoke. She will look to arrive at Kirkcaldy Fire Station, in the county of Fife, on February 13 – the 12th anniversary of her mum’s death.

The fire station has been chosen as the finishing point because Jean used to work there and a memorial tree has been planted there on the front lawn.

Lisa has set herself the target of raising £3,000 during this challenge with all the money going to Pancreatic Cancer UK.

The route Lisa will be taking from Stoke to Kirkcaldy Fire Station through England and Scotland.

Lisa said: “Nearly 12 years ago, my brother and I lost our amazing mum to pancreatic cancer. Jean Bruce was the most vibrant and outgoing woman we knew and was never afraid of a challenge.

“In her memory, I have decided to set myself the ultimate challenge: to walk from Stoke-on-Trent to Kirkcaldy Fire Station, Fife, where her memorial tree resides.

“It is approximately 317 Miles – 12 marathons in only 13 days. The route I am walking is almost the exact route I drove home the day she passed away.

“I know mum will be with me every step of the way and I would really appreciate everyone’s support. Any donation big or small, every penny counts towards research in how to help people survive this devastating disease.”
