Communities located in the vicinity of a £1 billion logistics development will soon be able to benefit from a £65,000 funding scheme.
The money, granted to South Staffordshire Council by West Midlands Interchange (WMI), will be available for eligible community projects to support those living within a three-mile radius of the business site.
Locations within the inclusion zone include Penkridge, Brewood, Coven, Stretton, Gailey, Slade Heath, Saredon and more.
As reported previously in Daily Focus, the massive WMI transport project is being built on land west of junction 12 of the M6 at Four Ashes. It could create up to 8,500 jobs.
Around eight million square feet of commercial space will be built on the site and 109 acres has also been assigned for two community parks.
A partnership of South Staffordshire Council, Staffordshire County Council and the City of Wolverhampton is working with WMI to maximise the site’s future potential for residents.
Leader of South Staffordshire Council, Councillor Roger Lees, said: “I’m delighted our residents will be able to benefit from this funding.
“The money will be available to assist with a range of community and local issues, so I’d absolutely encourage anyone within the inclusion area to find out more when further details are released and make the most of this scheme.”
Further information on the funding pot – including the eligibility criteria – will be released in the next few days.
