Amy Price: My apprentice story during National Apprenticeship Week

1 min read

During National Apprenticeship Week, GivEnergy Finance Apprentice, Amy Price, shares her experiences at one of the leading smart energy storage solution providers in the country.

“After finishing my GCSEs, I studied a beauty course at college and worked in a salon. However, I found myself enjoying managing my accounts more than I was giving beauty treatments!

It was then that I turned my attention to an apprenticeship and applied to work at GivEnergy.

I have always been interested in apprenticeships as it is a great balance of on-the-job learning and training combined with classroom learning, and I know that’s the way I learn best.

GivEnergy engineers and manufactures state-of-the-art battery storage systems, EV chargers, and other products to manage energy use and production. I wasn’t familiar with the environment and sustainability sectors before starting my apprenticeship. I’ve now had a huge insight into how important they are and it has made me interested in expanding my knowledge further.

That is one of the brilliant things about apprenticeship learning – you open your eyes to things that you might not have considered before. Many people still don’t know much about sustainability and it’s something that we should all be more aware of.

At GivEnergy, I was immediately impressed with their work culture and the friendliness of the team. You notice the positive atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door. Everyone has the drive to be here and we all share the same goals. It’s such a nice team to be part of. I’m really lucky the company is so close to my home!

The day-to-day of my apprenticeship includes financial data entry, administrative tasks, contacting suppliers – as well as my study on the side, completing tasks set by my college assessor. The learning includes a range of revision tasks and mock examinations.

What I value most about my apprenticeship is being able to input my learning into real-life situations. I’ve also enjoyed working with my team and being introduced to other job roles across the industry.

I would encourage other people to seriously consider doing an apprenticeship. You gain so much more experience, and it gets you prepared for the industry and enables you to excel in your career.

My goals are now to complete the rest of my qualifications and enjoy a career in the green energy sector. Thanks to the team at GivEnergy for giving me such a great welcome!”

Amy’s story has also been published on Look At Me Now, a new platform launched to showcase apprentice success stories from across the county. Find more case studies, here.
