Building Services engineers Ford Mainwaring is guaranteeing interviews to veterans as part of a wider commitment to support the UK’s Armed Forces.
The North Staffordshire-based business has made a pledge to support present and former service men and women by becoming the latest local company to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant.
Ford Mainwaring works primarily on public sector contracts and these include deployment across Ministry of Defence (MoD) sites as a sub-contractor for Vivo Defence, improving and renewing the infrastructure on MoD housing at army and RAF bases.
Company Director Daniel Bailey said: “While many veterans have highly transferable skills, the adjustment from military to civilian life can be tough.
“Signing the covenant offers benefits for all sides and I’d urge other companies to pledge their support. We are a growing company and are always open to applications from skilled workers in the electrical and mechanical engineering sectors.”
More than 14,000 skilled workers leave the Armed Forces each year.
“Having learned a trade, while working in highly motivated teams, they are equipped with a range of desirable and transferable skills,” Daniel added.
“They have proven abilities, such as a willingness to undertake training, resilience, accountability and calmness under pressure.”
By signing the covenant, Ford Mainwaring has agreed to a series of pledges. Alongside the interview guarantee, these include supporting reservists within the company’s workforce; offering veterans work placements, insight days and mentoring; and engaging with the MoD-backed Career Transition Partnership.
Based on the Centre 500 Business Park in the Etruria Valley, Ford Mainwaring undertakes building engineering projects across the UK, working with clients in the public and private sectors on major electrical and mechanical installation and refurbishment projects.
