A £345,000 road improvements scheme in Lichfield will start next Monday.
The major highways project on the A5127 Trent Valley Road is being carried out by Staffordshire County Council and is part of a wider £30 million investment in the county’s roads over the next two years.
Work will include reconstruction and resurfacing of the road from St Michaels Court to 51 Trent Valley Road and at either side of the junctions of Wissage Road.
Crews will also be installing a new tactile crossing, along with repairs to kerbing, ironwork and footpaths as required. The scheme is expected to take three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
To ensure the work can be carried out safely and to minimise disruption, a combination of temporary traffic lights, road and lane closures and nighttime working will be in operation.
From Monday 25 March until Thursday 28 March, initial works will be carried out under an off-peak road closure (9.30am to 3pm), where either side of the junction of Wissage Road will be closed.
Overnight closures from 7.30pm to 6.00am from Tuesday 2 to Friday 5 April and Monday 8 to Friday 12 April will also be in place for the resurfacing.
A signed diversion route will be in operation while the road is closed, however access for residents and businesses will be maintained where possible. People travelling in the area should allow extra time for their journeys.
David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said: “The Trent Valley Road is one of the main roads in and out of the city and the impact of high volumes of traffic over the years, means it is now in need of reconstruction. Once complete, I’m sure drivers will notice a real difference in their journeys.
“Temporary traffic lights will be in place during the works and crews will be doing their best to keep disruption to a minimum, which will include night time working. I would like to thank people in advance for their patience while this vital work takes place.”
