Honey Box Hive project is sweet news for music stars of future

1 min read

A creative hub in Newcastle-under-Lyme is reaching out to support and develop budding local musicians.

King Street Studios already hosts live music with the monthly Honey Box show featuring Staffordshire acts.

But now it’s launching the Honey Box Hive to provide musicians with the tools and knowledge they need to progress.

Initially the project will gather information to determine what people feel they need most in order to progress their careers in the industry.

After a series of meetings with musicians and bands, King Street Studios will host a number of free workshops and panels, delivered by industry professionals.

The project will also be offering new opportunities to aspiring sound and lighting engineers, as well as presenting opportunities on the Honey Box.

The Honey Box, whose monthly show in front of a studio audience is live-streamed, already offers opportunities in presenter roles, sound engineer training and camera operations training.

Co-producer Peter Herbert said: “Honey Box Hive is a great opportunity to build on the work started by the Honey Box, to engage in conversation with local artists about how they would like to further their careers, and to support them in achieving their aims.”

Lead of the new project and founder of the Honey Box, Lee Barber, said: “I think it’s important to recognise the fact that we aren’t claiming to know all the answers, we’re simply wanting to help musicians, to find those answers together.”

The Honey Box was founded in 2017 and is led voluntarily by a dedicated team, sponsored by Newcastle-under-Lyme based events management company PH Production Services Ltd.

Honey Box Hive is locally funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and will run up to March 2025.
