Businesses are being invited to take part in a scheme which boosts the career opportunities of young pupils.
Ormiston Horizon Academy and Thistley Hough Academy, both in Stoke-on-Trent, are appealing to firms to offer placements to their 13 to 14-year-old students.
The week-long placements would take place in early June and July, with benefits to both the youngsters and the host companies.
The aim of the scheme, organised by schools which are members of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, is to give the pupils valuable work experience while bridging the gap between schools and employers in the interests of a thriving economy.
For a business it means supporting a student to perform a job or multiple jobs in-house for the week.
Students will potentially be able to take their pick from a variety of sectors, with as many roles as possible on offer. Pupils may have to fill out some paperwork at their school as a formality.
Georgia Parkins, Education Officer at the Chambers who sources the placements, said: “At Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, we believe in the importance of a fantastic work force in order to help Staffordshire grow and thrive in an ever-changing economic landscape.
“Part of this includes giving first chances and experiences of what a great place Staffordshire is for our young people to grow their own careers.
“This is why through our schools’ membership, we are helping to bridge the gap between educational bodies and employers as we believe this is the collaboration that is needed to further boost our economy and create a buzz about living and working within the county.
“Both parties benefit from the work experience with the children getting the chance to explore different avenues, light a spark or contribute to society.
“Meanwhile employers get to seek out potential future employees, ignite that first interest in their sector or raise their business platform.”
The dates are: Thistley Hough – week commencing 3 June; Ormiston Horizon – week commencing 1 July.
