Keele ranked among England’s Top 15 universities for research and teaching excellence

Keele University has been ranked among the top 15 universities in England for combined excellence in both teaching and research.

It comes following a new analysis of the latest Teaching Excellence Framework and Research Excellence Framework results.

Other English universities that feature in the combined top 15 include the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge and the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine.

Keele achieved a Gold ranking in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework exercise, a repeat of its previous Gold ranking from 2017 – making it one of just 15 broad-based universities to achieve Gold in both years.

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework, 80 per cent of Keele’s research was rated as being either world-leading or internationally excellent.

Professor Mark Ormerod, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Keele University.

Professor Mark Ormerod, pictured above, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Keele University, said: “As we celebrate our 75th anniversary year, I’m always mindful of how our founding ethos of positively impacting society through our research and teaching has adapted and evolved throughout that time, while still remaining committed to that original vision for the kind of university Keele would be.

“To be one of only a select group of universities recognised as being excellent in both teaching and research is therefore not only extremely humbling, but gives us a further impetus to continue this work into the future, not only solving some of the world’s most pressing problems through research, but giving our graduates the knowledge and the drive to go out and make a difference themselves in whatever careers they choose.”
