Brown Recycling has been named a finalist for the Sustainability and Environment category, sponsored by GivEnergy, at the Staffordshire Chambers Business Awards.

Originally established in 1926 as a coal haulage business for the pottery industry, Brown Recycling have evolved into a comprehensive waste management company, serving Staffordshire with safe, compliant, and sustainable waste management and recycling services.

Their central waste management facility at Vanguard House features eco-friendly innovations such as rainwater harvesting tanks, recycled bricks for structural walls, argon-filled glazing, sustainably sourced timber cladding, and LED lighting throughout their buildings and processing plants.

Brown have also introduced innovative waste management solutions, such as using 100% recycled material wheelie bins, reducing the need for virgin materials. All their waste management and recycling processes are conducted within the UK, supporting local processing and minimising their carbon footprint.

In August 2023, they achieved their target of zero waste to landfill, with all waste collected being either converted to energy, recycled into aggregates, or repurposed into other materials. Their efforts have resulted in over 516,000 tonnes of waste being treated, recycled, or used as Energy from Waste feedstock, significantly contributing to the circular economy in the region.

The category winner will be announced at the gala awards evening, set to take place on the Thursday, 4 July at the Doubletree by Hilton.
