A local training provider is working with 11-13 year olds at secondary schools in Stoke-on-Trent to inspire them about a future in the digital and creative sectors.
The My Digital Future programme has been developed by the Inspirational Learning Group and features as part of the wider ‘DigitAll’ project in collaboration with Wavemaker CIC.
The programme has been specifically written for Year 8 pupils at secondary schools in the city using funding from the local authority’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
So far the My Digital Future has given almost 2,500 pupils insight into the digital and creative industries, and the kinds of jobs available in the sector.
“In a changing world where the use of digital technology plays an ever-increasing role, it’s essential that young people enter the workplace with the skills that employers are telling us they need,” said Dan Mears, Partnerships Manager at The Inspirational Learning Group.
“By showcasing relevant educational pathways and working with local employers in the sector, we can ensure that we retain the best talent our great city has to offer”.
The programme culminates in a celebratory Finals to be held on 20 June at Staffordshire University’s Catalyst Building where students will pitch their ideas on positioning Stoke-on-Trent as key digital hub within the UK.
The challenge gives them the chance to explore career pathways and create a digital billboard and storyboard for their campaign.
The Stafford-based Inspirational Learning Group, which was founded by cousins Michael and Ben Dyer, specialises in delivering education programmes and creating bespoke curriculums for delivery in schools across the country.
The group aims to equip young people with the skills they need to be successful in the world of work and has helped to inspire more than 600,000 students since 2013.
