IT supplier launches new service sourcing vehicles for film and TV productions

An IT supplier to film and game studios has launched another business venture helping to source vehicles for the latest productions and movies.

Will Morris has been supplying IT and infrastructure solutions to the film, TV and games industries for eight years, launching his own business Behind The Scenes Consultants in August 2020.

Cars on Screen came about following discussions with a studio director friend and has already attracted a lot of interest.

Will, who is based in Trentham, in Stoke-on-Trent, has more than two dozen vehicles listed on his site – a mixture of classic, modified and high-performance models – and can scour the market to find ideal vehicles for production needs.

He said: “Cars on Screen is a good way for me to diversify because of my links with studios. It has the potential to be bigger than my IT business, which is already successful.

“My business encourages members of the public to list their vehicles, and this can be browsed by the studios who can choose to hire them as props on set or action cars to be driven. I also supply props such as street furniture.

“From working with film studios, I learnt that they used to own all the cars used in productions, but that cost of that is too expensive now. I’m the middleman allowing them to hire instead.”

Will, who started his career at Overclockers, visits the famous Pinewood Studios, near London, often and works with other big names in the industry.

He said: “I have supplied film and game studios throughout the UK for a number of years, with 3D modelling and special effects for shows such as Game of Thrones done on machines I have supplied.

“Every Marvel DC film produced since 2016 has used my machines.

“Customers will come to me and say they are working on a production that requires X amount of data transfer over the network and I make sure their network requirements are up to scratch.

“Things were difficult during the actors and writers strikes but business has picked up a lot this year. If everything that the studios have already told me about comes in, I will have a very, very good year.”
