Staffordshire engineering firm KMF Precision Sheet Metal has won a top award recognising its outstanding collaborative efforts, work experience programme and apprenticeships.
The leading sheet metal manufacturing company took the trophy for large employer Skills Champion of the Year at the Enginuity Skills Awards 2024.
The company were finalists in the hotly-cotested category alongside industry leaders BAE Systems and Siemens.
The awards took place earlier this month at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole and was hosted by TB presenter and business journalist Steph McGovern.
Not only did the company receive the honour, but KMF was also commissioned to create the eye-catching table decorations for the event.
The dramatic centrepiece was a design that merged art with engineering entitled “Give me wings so that I may fly”.
Produced by designer Suhaill Shaikh and fabricated by KMF apprentices, key to the design was the ease of production, assembly, packing and transport, and low wastage and health and safety features.
In 2010, KMF set up a Young Engineer of the Year programme, working with year 10 students across high schools in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.
Over the past 14 years this has seen them work with more than 25,000 young people while investing over £1m in STEM projects and equipment for schools.
Jenny Johnston, People and Culture Manager said: “We are delighted to win the Skills Champion Award. KMF is passionate about apprenticeships, and we utilise our Apprenticeship Levy to upskill our workforce.
“Our apprentices are the future of our business, and we provide the very best training through our in-house Apprenticeship Programme, which is recognised by the National Apprenticeship Service as world-class.”
The Enginuity Skills Awards is an annual celebration of the best in UK engineering and manufacturing talent.
Through recognition and celebration, the event inspires and empowers teams, organisations, and the next generation of talent in the engineering and manufacturing sector, fostering a culture of innovation, diversity and collaboration.
