Digital whizz Curtis Burrows has been recognised by a UK-wide technology agency for his outstanding achievements at South Staffordshire College.
A high-achiever on the motor vehicle course, he has been crowned as a student digital champion by Jisc.
Curtis, who has shared his expert skills with his peers, was awarded a £100 Amazon voucher.
Earlier this year, he was hailed as the UK’s highest continuous user of the CENTURY platform having used it, both in the classroom and in his own time, to enhance his Maths and English skills.
He continues using CENTURY’s AI resources to support his learning and has now racked up a massive 89 weeks of continuous use.
The student also maximised his digital skills in other areas after motor vehicle tutor Kate Sollers-Dominey introduced the use of metaverse spaces to support teaching and learning within the motor vehicle subject area.
Inspired by the metaverse lesson materials, Curtis took an unprecedented step of creating his own metaverse space (in his own time) to help him progress.
Curtis’ metaverse reflected the look and feel of the college’s motor vehicle workshop, included college branding and even had his own personal avatar.
He uses the area to store digital notes taken in lessons, upload his assignments and revise.
Steve Wileman, Head of Digital Learning at South Staffordshire College, said: “Witnessing Curtis develop these advanced digital skills has been truly inspiring.
“I am immensely proud of Curtis, he’s a true champion of digital technologies in education.
“He’s a fantastic advocate for digital technology, using it to excel in not only his motor vehicle course, but also to further his Maths and English skillsets.”
Craig Stowell, Jisc’s FE relationship manager, said: “Curtis is a fantastic student role model and digital champion.”
