A brand-new food festival will be staged in a North Staffordshire town later this year, it has been announced.

Castle Food & Drink Fest is set to take place in Newcastle-under-Lyme on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend, 24 August.

Held on the Ironmarket and High Street, the event promises to be a day filled with street food, artisan markets, activities and crafts for children, food demonstrations, workshops and live music.

It is being delivered as a collaboration between Newcastle-under-Lyme BID and Independent Street, with support from Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council

Visitors have been told to expect an array of food traders featuring an eclectic mix of cuisines  including handmade dumplings, Filipino street food, hand pressed toasties, biltong, “taste tingling” cheese truckles, handmade marshmallow and fudges, Turkish delights and Baklava and samosas and onion bhajis “the size of cannon balls.”

There will also be artisan gins, woodfired pizzas, local honey, a hog roast, handmade Portuguese delights, coffee and much more.

And people will also be able to learn about the origins of food and meet the makers and bakers.

Local arts and crafters will have their own stalls too.

Lisa Cowley, of Independent Street, which is known for events celebrating local independent business and produce in the North West, said: “We are delighted to have been asked to collaborate on a new annual event for the heart of Newcastle-under-Lyme.

“An event like this is a great way to showcase local talent whilst also boosting footfall to the town centre.

“The day will be packed full of local artisan producers and foodies. Pop along and join us and soak up the atmosphere. It is a superb opportunity to find out the origins of your food, feast your eyes upon some goodies and fill those shopping bags. There is something for the whole family and best of all, it’s free entry!”

BID Manager Charl Pearce added: “Let’s face it, we’re a nation of foodies and Newcastle’s food and drink offering is continually growing. This festival is a fantastic way to bring in a variety of street foods to the town as well as celebrate local offerings.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Independent Street and look forward to seeing everyone at the event.”
