National TV show helps drive customers to The Moat House hotel

Bookings have doubled at a Staffordshire hotel since becoming the star of a national TV programme.

The Moat House in Acton Trussell was the setting of Channel 5 observational documentary The Motorway Hotel last month.

Viewers were given an insight into the running of the family-owned hotel and got chance to know some of its key members of staff and hotel regulars.

Operations Director Emily Lewis said the venue has been enjoying increased popularity since the show hit the screens.

She said: “The impact of the show has been really positive.

“Our accommodation booking rate has doubled since the show aired and we’re welcoming a lot more guests both in the hotel and dining areas who are breaking up long journeys on the motorway. We’ve also a significant increase in wedding enquiries, which is fantastic.”

During the first episode of the show, Head Chef James Cracknell was shown coming up with a new menu for Valentine’s Day – and several bookings have since come in for next year’s event as a result.

Emily, pictured above, added: “We’re very happy with how the hotel and team came across in the show. I think they captured the humour of the team fantastically whilst providing an insight into what goes on behind the scenes.

“Obviously, the motorway features heavily in the show, which was very much Channel 5’s vision for the programme, but I think the stark contrast between the busy motorway and the calm of The Moat House was highlighted nicely by the edit.

“Hopefully we will continue to see the positive impact on business levels but also we hope to be able to encourage our new guests to explore more of Staffordshire during their stay with us and pass on the benefits to other local businesses and attractions.”

The hotel, which is part of The Lewis Partnership, was approached by BriteSpark Films to appear in the series.

Filming took place over three months last year.
