A Lichfield businesswoman is planning a 300km charity cycle ride in India – less than a year after having a total hip replacement.
Former naval nurse Sally Wagstaff is taking on the challenge in a bid to raise £4,000 for the Stan Bowley Trust, a charity that dedicated to advancing cancer treatment.
Her fundraising will help the charity equip itself with the cutting-edge robotic radiotherapy technology CyberKnife, which is able to target previously untreatable tumours with precision, sparing healthy tissues from damage.
Sally, pictured above at her Lichfield city centre business Sally Wagstaff Aesthetics, is taking part in memory of loved ones who have died from or had cancer.
The Stan Bowley Cycle Rajasthan Challenge will see her cycle from Jaipur to the Taj Mahal.
Despite not being a season cyclist, she is determined to push herself to reach her goal.
The mum-of-two, from Kings Bromley, said: “I lost my brother several years ago to oesophageal cancer, a very good friend to breast cancer, and I have other family members and friends who have been affected by this devastating disease.
“Who knows which of those may have been helped by the CyberKnife?”
She added: “I do like pushing myself, and I am really looking forward to what I’m hoping will be an incredible experience.”
The trek will start in October.
Sally has already paid £310 to commit to taking part and her fundraising page has since drummed up £1,500.
