A main crossroad junction in South Staffordshire is set to undergo a five-week improvements scheme as the result of an £860,000 investment.
Staffordshire County Council’s highways team will be carrying out the scheme from today (August 19) on the A449 Wolverhampton Road junction with Dudley Road/Bridgnorth Road.
The scheme will include road resurfacing, repairs and replacement of kerbs and ironwork, cutting back trees and shrubs and replacing traffic sensors.
To carry out the work safely, during the first week lane closures will be used, and then three-way temporary signals will be in operation on the A449 for the rest of the scheme.
In addition, some night-time closures will be needed on Bridgnorth Road and Dudley Road, starting on Friday August 23. These closures will take place between 7pm and 6am. A signed diversion will be in place though people will be able to access properties and businesses.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways Rob Pritchard said: “This is a significant investment on a busy South Staffordshire junction and will give lasting benefits for years to come.
“It’s part of our ongoing commitment to improve our highway network across the county.
“Due to the nature of the scheme and its location we do need to implement temporary traffic management throughout, including lane closures, signals and night-time road closures.
“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience while work takes place and thank people for their patience.”
