Two Staffordshire councils have made shortlists in this year’s LGC Workforce national awards.
LGC Workforce is an annual conference and awards ceremony which showcases the finest examples of service delivered every day by councils through innovations in recruitment, staff retention, diversity, inclusion and wellbeing.
The awards received more than double the number of entries compared to the first time they took place last year.
Lichfield District Council has been shortlisted in three of the 12 categories.
The Best Place to Work category recognises organisations that have gone the extra mile to ensure staff are engaged, supported and developed to their full potential in the interests of the communities they serve.
Lichfield District Council’s place on the shortlist has been achieved through its Being a Better Council programme, which has made a commitment to staff belonging and wellbeing.
Chief Executive Simon Fletcher has been shortlisted in the Workforce Innovator category for the same commitment.
Meanwhile, Project Support Officer Grace Hudson is in the running for the title of Graduate of the Year.
An “essential part of the team”, who has “made a huge impact” since joining the council, Grace is described as having “all the makings of a future chief executive”.

“We have made tremendous progress over the past few years making significant changes which continue to inspire and empower our workforce, which in turn creates a greater commitment from them to improving services to our residents.
“We want to be employer of choice in our region and hopefully recognition through awards like these encourages the best of local government to want to work for Lichfield District Council.”
Tamworth Borough Council is also hoping for success at the awards.
One of the council’s teams is shortlisted in the Back Office Heroes category for work on delivering a new website.
The brand-new council website was created on a new software platform, meeting the needs of customers and being 100 per cent accessible at zero additional cost.
Winners of the awards will be announced at an event in Liverpool in November.
