A Tamworth pub boasting a string of national accolades has picked up another top title being named Britain’s Best Pub for Beer.
The Tamworth Tap was crowned winner of the category at the 2024 Great British Pub Awards.
Hundreds of the best pubs across Great Britain entered the awards and winners were announced in 17 categories at a ceremony held – and livestreamed – earlier this week.
The Market Street brewpub’s success follows a host of other award wins which include picking up the Campaign for Real Ale’s title of National Pub of the Year two years in a row.
A spokesperson said on social media: “We didn’t expect to win – the competition was fierce – and we were just there to enjoy the evening and our ‘finalist’ status.
“Our category was first up. We held hands and waited…
“Guess what Tappers – we WON! The Tamworth Tap was proclaimed ‘Best Pub for Beer’ in the industry by the Morning Advertiser and SIBA at the Oscars of the pub world. We can’t quite believe it.
“Needless to say we had the a fantastic night celebrating. The only thing missing was you and the best team in the world.”
Announcing the winner at the celebration, Andy Slee CEO of category sponsor SIBA said: “This pub impressed judges with its wide range of beers, knowledge of the category and staff training as well as its dedication to quality. It is a shining example of what a pub can do for its community and the impact our sector can have.”
Owned by George and Louise Greenaway, pictured above, and home to Tamworth Brewing Company the pub, is overlooked by the market town’s Norman castle and is located in a 16th century shop front.
It features an historic courtyard beer terrace and hosts regular live music and themed events.
