Stoke-on-Trent specialist lands huge order for Middle East water treatment plant expansion

1 min read

A specialist manufacturer has landed a substantial six-figure order to supply ceramic parts for one of the biggest public sector ozone plants in the Middle East.

Stoke-on-Trent-based Mantec Technical Ceramics has supplied ceramic diffuser tubes and installation accessories for the facility in Bahrain after winning a contract from Italian multinational De Nora, a global provider of sustainable water treatment solutions.

The parts are critical for the phase four expansion of the Tubli Sewage Plant – in the capital Manama – one of the largest wastewater treatment works in the country.

Due to rapid population growth the average wastewater flow through the facility has doubled to 400,000m3 per day. Ozone – which occurs naturally in the Earth’s upper atmosphere – is produced by generators to sustainably sanitise, as well as eliminate odours, from the waste.

Once rendered harmless, the high-quality effluent is then reused for irrigation and agricultural purposes throughout Bahrain.

Mantec Sales Engineer Andy Frost, pictured above, said: “We are proud to have played our part in this prestigious project and we worked closely with De Nora to come up with the optimum solution for what is a substantial and demanding ozone operation.

“Our proven expertise in this area once again made us a preferred supplier. The ceramic tubes were all manufactured here in our Stoke-on-Trent facility, and we delivered three weeks ahead of schedule.”

The new ozone generators in Manama will accommodate the increased flow of wastewater caused by the population expansion.

Following initial discussions with De Nora, subsequent product redesigns and vendor prequalification, Mantec supplied a large number of 600mm-long ceramic diffuser tubes and associated fittings.

Mantec’s Pyrolith grade material was chosen for the project as it is ideal for diffuser tubes.

The company has become renowned for this kind of specialist product over the past 15 years and has supplied over 100,000 large ceramic diffuser tubes for wastewater treatment and ozone applications.

De Nora is among the world’s leading suppliers of water filtration and disinfection technologies (for the industrial and municipal sectors) and the world’s leading supplier of swimming pool disinfection components. It was selected for the Bahrain plant expansion from a group of top-level ozone manufacturers.

Andy added: “Mantec is delighted to have been chosen as the preferred ceramic specialist for this part of the project and is confident that our advanced porous tube technology will lead to further successes.”
