Fletcher Moorland celebrates staff amid bumper year – and more jobs are on the way

All staff at an engineering firm have been awarded an above national average pay increase following an ‘exceptionally positive year’.

Fletcher Moorland has given a minimum five per cent increase to all employees’ annual salaries or renumeration package and a guaranteed £500 end of calendar year bonus.

It comes after the company’s latest financial results show turnover for the 12 months to 30 September 2024 reached £13.5 million, up from £10.6 million the year before and £8.5 million in 2021/22.

The Stoke-on-Trent-based company focusses on the repair and refurbishment of industrial equipment.

Fletcher Moorland has put its success down to an increase in business in current markets as well as opening up new ones – and its talented workforce.

The firm has invested £900,000 into its Meerkat online condition monitoring system in recent years, which prevents failures by identifying problems before they start and is being used by facilities management companies in buildings including The Shard and The Scalpel in London.

A £1.2 million sum has been invested into the 65,000 sq ft Stoke headquarters in the last 12 months including the installation of solar panels and machinery investments such as £140,000 on a CNC lathe.

Managing Director Matt Fletcher, pictured above, told Daily Focus: “We have seen an increase in current markets but have also opened new markets for ourselves.

“We have made good profits in the business, and everything gets reinvested – that is one thing we have made sure of.

“We have increased our footprint by taking on further facilities, invested in machinery and made our workspace more efficient so that we can get more product out. There are some brilliant people here as well.”

Two years ago, Fletcher Moorland gave all 86 of its staff a £1,000 payment to help them through the cost-of-living crisis.

Its workforce has since increased to more than 120 people.

Matt said: “We wouldn’t be where we are now if we didn’t have people that are passionate about the business, and loyal as well.

“Our Operations Director Diane Bouchier is bringing in a philosophy of being an employer of choice. We have different shift patterns that people can work depending on childcare or circumstances and we are training engineers of the future.

“A skills gap has been identified and we are doing what we can to bring people in that want to upskill themselves.”

Fletcher Moorland is now setting up an engineered products division, mainly looking at the food and drink and pharmaceutical industries, to offer the manufacturing of parts at a much faster rate than a lot of original equipment manufacturers can deliver.

Investments into this are expected to be made in the next six months with at least five to ten job opportunities created.

Matt added: “We are investing in more equipment and machinery to manufacture these products – bringing back the ‘made in Stoke’.”
