Manufacturer cuts bills thanks to council’s £100K green grant

A Staffordshire manufacturing specialist has invested a £100,000 cash boost in new equipment to help cut its energy bills and reduce carbon emissions.

Cannock-based Laser Process secured the Green Solutions Scheme grant from Staffordshire County Council to enhance its energy efficiency.

The scheme has now been extended and the authority is encouraging other businesses to apply for funding.

Daily Focus previously reported that Stafford-based furniture restoration and manufacturing company Taylor’s Classic Furniture is making savings in the region of £35,000 a year thanks to the scheme.

Laser Process, who specialise in the manufacture of complex fabricated assemblies and metal components, is now installing a press brake/ compressor and replacing its LPG forklift trucks with electric ones.

Adrian Edwards, group special projects manager at Sirius A Corporation, who has been working closely with Laser Process on the project, said: “After our application was approved, we received a free energy assessment which provided us with several recommendations to make our business more energy efficient. We decided to implement these changes and applied for the full £100,000 funding.

“By switching to a variable speed compressor, we will only use the air required, reducing our energy bills. Replacing our LPG forklift trucks with electric trucks will also reduce our carbon footprint, making us a greener business.

“We highly recommend the Green Solutions Scheme to any business considering a move towards greater sustainability.”

The Staffordshire Green Solutions Scheme offers businesses financial support to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Under the scheme, businesses can get a free energy assessment, free carbon literacy training, and a grant of up to £100,000 to make sustainable changes.

Eligible businesses may also be eligible for an interest-free loan of between £5,000 and £200,000, repayable within two years.

Simon Tagg, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for environment, infrastructure and climate change, said: “Participating in the Green Solutions Scheme not only helps businesses reduce their energy costs but also plays a role in making Staffordshire sustainable.

“By adopting energy-efficient measures, businesses can significantly lower their carbon footprint while enjoying long-term financial benefits. I strongly encourage all eligible businesses to take advantage of this opportunity while the funding is still available.”
