Growth fuels Powell Design and Construction’s mission to nurture future architects and builders

A Cheadle-based firm has highlighted its commitment to developing young talent while upping its staff numbers by more than 30 per cent.

Powell Design and Construction, which specialises in high-quality house extensions, has taken on three new young employees who will be learning their trades as they go.

And another new recruit has seen staff numbers rise from 12 to 16 in the last year.

Architect and co-founder Alexandra Powell said: “As a young adult, I was given the chance to work at an architecture practice, which fuelled my passion for the field.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to now offer that same opportunity to talented students.

“From the outset, our vision has always been to build not just a business but a platform to support young people entering the profession.”

Alexandra, who is also a part-time lecturer at University of Staffordshire, where one of her new recruits studies, added: “The experience they’re gaining with us will be invaluable in their future careers, and they’re already playing a vital role here, producing 3D models of client designs.

“These models bring projects to life, helping our clients to visualise their dream homes or business spaces.”

The new young recruits are trainee architects and university students Laura Mills and Finlay Cousins and apprentice project manager John Baggaley, who is working on the construction side of the business.
