Delight for foodies as The Slamwich Club and Scrumbles come to Leek

Two popular choices in the North Staffordshire food scene have chosen Leek’s revamped indoor markets as the place for their new venues.

Businesses and stall holders have started to return to the new-look Butter Market units and the Trestle Market following a £3.4 million transformation.

A number started trading last week with others opening in the build up to Christmas.

Friday, 6 December will see the The Slamwich Club and Scrumbles Cake Shop open in the Trestle Market.

The Slamwich Club has been a hit with diners in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, since it opened in 2018 and its sandwiches, fries and sides have won several awards.

Scrumbles, famed for its brownies and other sweet treats, started up in Leek but closed its shop in the town early last year, not long after opening a second branch in Brown Edge.

A Facebook post announcing the market unit reads: “Leek we were never going to stay away for long.

“We’ll be opening in the newly refurbished Trestle Market next Friday, 6th December.

“We’re so excited to be back in our hometown.”

Two market units, with signs up and shutters down.
Both units will open on Friday, 6 December.

Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Scrumbles and Slamwich to the Trestle Market and to the Moorlands.

“The new food and drink units are such an important part of this regeneration so it’s fantastic to be joined by these local businesses as we start a new era for the markets.

“There’s just one unit left so if you’re a street food vendor who wants to be part of the vibrant market and events scene in Leek, just get in touch with our markets team for more details.”

The two new food and drink businesses will complement the traditional market café that is staying in its usual place in the Butter Market.
