Company completes its largest-ever fly-tipping clean up

A specialist firm behind the clearing of fly-tipped waste which made national news has described the job as its largest ever one of that type.

A huge ‘mountain’ of waste spanning over 15 metres was found to be illegally abandoned on a rural road off Watery Lane in Lichfield last Monday.

The pile blocked off homes and businesses, resulting in a loss of trade, and pictures circulated on social media and were quickly picked up by the national media.

The ‘industrial scale’ incident was also mentioned in the Houses of Parliament by Lichfield MP Dave Robertson.

Willshee’s Waste & Recycling led the extensive clear-up project and took the rubbish to its recycling facility in Burton upon Trent, in line with its zero waste to landfill policy.

Managing Director Dean Willshee said: “Willshee’s has been working with the local council for 30 years and we are proud to support the community in our largest fly-tipping clean up to date.

“Fly-tipping is not only an eyesore, it is a health hazard that causes considerable disruption to businesses and local residents.

“We’re pleased to have been able to quickly remove the waste and ensure that the community was up and running again very quickly.”

The collected waste was separated into recyclable materials, including metals, wood, cardboard and plastics.

Willshee’s is supporting the local community with its investigation into the incident.

Lichfield District Council has said it is determined to trace and prosecute those responsible.
